HOW TO _ just another Boléro is a short duet based on the famous notes of Maurice Ravel’s “Boléro”. This grand composition inspired the two artists to create a changing landscape of bodies within the edges of a carpet. The performers, like animals in captivity, are forced into a cramped but familiar space, where they seem to have forgotten their their own nature, their own roles and the norms of behaviour for a peaceful coexistence. HOW TO _ just another Boléro wants to be a portrait of the different attempts to learn or relearn, to discover or to rediscover HOW to behave, to touch, to cooperate, to help each other, to love each other... between dramatic and ironic tones.

EM+ is a project that combines the choreographic practices of Emanuele Rosa and Maria Focaraccio (IT, DE). The first works of EM+ have won several awards, including: 1st prize TWAIN_direzioniAltre Award 2022, 1st prize Call from the Aisle 2021, and were selected at the Young Author Dance Showcase 2021 and 2022 and at dFeria 2023 (San Sebastian, Spain). EM+ works have been presented at numerous festivals in Italy and internationally (Spain, Portugal, France and Greece). In 2023, Emanuele and Maria were selected by Torino Danza and Interplay Festival for the Visiting section of the European project Big Pulse, as part of the Tanec Praha Festival, Prague - June 2023. They are also among the five authors selected by ResiDance XL (action of the Anticorpi Network XL).

interview

Have you been to Gorizia before?
If yes: one thing you look forward to doing again
If not: one thing you hope to find

We've never been to Gorizia before. We hope to find good food, lots of culture and a pleasant nightlife.

If you could give a piece of advice to yourself as a child, what would it be?
Take it easy and don’t stress out too much, at any rate it will only get worse.

If you had the power to change the world you live in, what would you start with?
Inclusion, civil rights, and freedom.

How did you first come across dance?
For both of us at a very young age in our hometowns, somewhat casually...

Complete the sentences with only one word:
Dance can: free us
Dance is: an act of expression and connection
Dance will be: of everyone

What was the spark that originated the idea for your performance?
A tattoo on the knuckles of a friend’s hand.

And now, tell me why I should come and see your performance:
three metres for two bodies
almost a kiss
at least twice
a slow flight
the narrow space
The cold friction
closed eyes
together we search for the other
a right way
a perfect end
the most beautiful Hully Gully in the world
time is falling upon itself
actions and gestures
skilfully repeated
forgotten
in a time suspended in the taste of darkness, our bodies keep each other company for hours and images
in drops of orgasm and boredom.
the crescendo inside does not grow outside, and that outside does not survive inside while the skins glue themselves to the Persian past, ruffian
small touches and big thuds.

tickets can be purchased at the theatre one hour before the show time

The Visavì Gorizia Dance Festival has always promoted the territory through the Visavì Meets Art event. This year, the public attending the site-specific performances will have the opportunity to take part in special free guided tours of the art venues where the events are taking place.
