Visavì Workshop
STOP & GO!

Silvia Gribaudi, Andrea Rampazzo
aSMUG (SI)

What makes us decide to stop or move? How can we tune into movement? What do impulse, resistance, pleasure and tiredness do to our stopping or moving? How can we overcome our limits? Sharing the practices developed for Amateur Smugglers, a performance by Silvia Gribaudi and Andrea Rampazzo for En–Knap that examines the relationship between borders, freedom and belonging, this workshop explores the principles of physicality and delves into the desires and motivations that drive action and guide dance.

Open to all. No dance experience required. Max. 20 participants. Recommendations: minimum age 16+, no shoes, comfortable clothing.

Silvia Gribaudi is an award-winning Italian choreographer who specialises in performing arts. She has focused her research on the social impact of bodies, having centred her choreographic language around the comical element, and the relationship between the audience and performers. She has been questioning gender stereotypes, female and male identities, and the concept of virtuosity in dance and daily life, transgressing clichés, and appearances. Andrea Rampazzo is a dancer and choreographer. As dancer, he collaborated with dance companies, such as Compagnia Virgilio Sieni, Francesca Selva, Artemis Danza/Monica Casadei. As a choreographer, his works have been presented at various festivals (Caffeine, Tendance, Corpi in Movimento). In 2017, he co-founded Dance Makers: a heterogeneous group of dancers working on choreographic itineraries in site specific performances and creative interventions.

aSMUG project is funded by the European Union through the GO! 2025 Small Projects Fund of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 program, managed by the GECT GO.

interview

Have you been to Gorizia before?
If yes: one thing you look forward to doing again
If not: one thing you hope to find
Silvia: Yes, I can’t wait to have a stroll around the city.
Andrea: Yes, I look forward to tasting a nice glass of local white wine ;)

If you could give a piece of advice to yourself as a child, what would it be?
Silvia: dance freely around the world.
Andrea: Always be curious and do what makes you happy without worrying about other people’s opinions.

If you had the power to change the world you live in, what would you start with?
Silvia: I'd abolish nuclear weapons.
Andrea: I’d get rid of wealth and poverty.

How did you first come across dance?
Silvia: When I was a child, in the village where I used to spend my holidays, we all danced together with the orchestra at the local summer festival. It was there that I took my first steps in the world of dance and discovered the value of being part of a community.
Andrea: thanks to my best friend who convinced me to start practicing it.

Complete the sentences with only one word:
Dance can: Silvia: unite in diversity - Andrea: build relations
Dance is: Silvia: complicity - Andrea: a very serious game
Dance will be: Silvia: freedom - Andrea: revolution

What was the spark that originated the idea for your latest project?
Silvia and Andrea: the motivation that drives people to go beyond their limits, even when this is not permitted.

And now, tell me why I should come and participate in your workshop:
Would you like to feel free and discover the pleasure of movement? We will explore together what makes us want to dance and the pleasure that derives from it by physically experiencing some of the practices developed during the creative process of "Amateur Smugglers". We look forward to seeing you!
