VISAVÌ SHORT FORMAT

Art productions by: Pablo Girolami, Katja Kolarič, Giovanni Leonarduzzi, Giovanni Napoli

A showcase for the new and most interesting young-artist productions in the contemporary dance scene, with a special focus on local talents who are making their way on the international scene. The new VISAVÌ SHORT FORMAT section offers the audience and cultural operators the chance to see the work of several artists in one single event.
The event features (among others) a preview of Aganis by the Cormons-based artist Giovanni Leonarduzzi, a work that explores the Friulian mythology through the figure of Aganes (water nymphs) embodied by five female dancers; and duo T.R.I.P.O.F.O.B.I.A. by Italian-Spanish Pablo Girolami, investigating human fears.

interview with Pablo Girolami // T.R.I.P.O.F.O.B.I.A.

Have you been to Gorizia before?
Yes.

What do you look forward to doing again?
Sharing my art with the audience.

What awaits you after Visavì?
I don’t like the idea of having prospects, I live in the moment. What comes next is none of our busi-ness…

You have the power to do one thing to change the world of dance: what is it?
Cage in fraudsters …

If you could give one piece of advice to yourself as a child, what would it be?
Accept your sexual orientation sooner!

And to a new dance company moving its first steps?
Calls, tenders and grants!

Three words to describe what dance is to you.
Instinct, seduction, dance

Tell me briefly what your show is about. Now convince me to come and see it :)
T.R.I.P.O.F.O.B.I.A. focuses on the fear of holes, or rather, of all those small geometric figures that create small holes when placed close together.
Challenging a fear is no easy game. On the contrary, it seems that playing that game implies the ac-ceptation of not playing at all.
With T.R.I.P.O.F.O.B.I.A we deliberately choose to accept the challenge and make fun of it, turn-ing into real parasites that creep into its tunnels.

interview with Giovanni Leonarduzzi // Aganis

Have you been to Gorizia before?
Yes, we were lucky enough to receive an invitation and perform Profumo d'Acacia at the first edi-tion of Visavì Gorizia Dance Festival.

What do you look forward to doing again?
We can’t wait for a city like Gorizia to come alive with a dance festival. One of the few times we can experience this thrill “at home”, and we are not forced to go out of our region or country to find it.

What awaits you after Visavì?
The Bilbao Act festival in November, where I’ll perform my solo project, a short piece called Sono Solo Tuo Padre.

You have the power to do one thing to change the world of dance: what is it?
I don’t know. I focus on my own path, on my artistic growth and on staying true to my visions. I think about my own little sphere, and I always try to do and to give my best, I don’t think I can be the one telling what has to change in this world. Let alone dance!

If you could give one piece of advice to yourself as a child, what would it be?
Always try your best. What you can do today, just do it! Don’t procrastinate and don’t spare your-self, whatever the field. Find your goal and go straight ahead, don’t let dead weights slow you down, and learn everything you can from everyone, because there is always something to learn.

And to a new dance company moving its first steps?
I wouldn’t know, I am that very company!

Three words to describe what dance is to you.
Relinquishment, pain, passion

Tell me briefly what your show is about. Now convince me to come and see it :)
"Aganis" is about a Friulian legend, which we try to show in a contemporary key. It tells the story of women-like nymphs and warriors, of mythological figures that have always existed, but no-one has ever really seen them.

interview with Giovanni Napoli // Narciso

Have you been to Gorizia before?
Yes, I’ve been to Gorizia more than once. The first time was in 2009, for a show that premiered at Mittelfest. In the following years, I danced at the Gorizia City Theatre.

What do you look forward to doing again?
I can’t wait to roam the streets of Gorizia again.

What awaits you after Visavì?
A lot of work, both as a dancer and as a choreographer. It will be a busy season.

You have the power to do one thing to change the world of dance: what is it?
Probably only one thing wouldn’t be enough. For sure, I would stand up for a swift generational turnover.

If you could give one piece of advice to yourself as a child, what would it be?
To follow my dreams and to not give a thing about those who want to stop me.

And to a new dance company moving its first steps?
To focus on quality and innovation.

Three words to describe what dance is to you.
A dialogue with my own soul.

Tell me briefly about your show.
My performance is freely inspired by the myth of Narcissus, a metaphor for our times, where hedon-ism and individualism are predominant. My Narcissus is a quest, a journey to find a way to free our-selves from this social imposition.

Now convince me to come and see it:)
You can't miss it, it’s a work that combines bespoke electronic music by David Nigro and Claudio Borgianni; classical music by Giuseppe Domenico Scarlatti; a video installation by Cristina Spelti with images by Nicola Stasi; and, last but not least, an excellent dancer.
