In a small, cosy speakeasy in New York, five drunken gangsters vie for the attention of a sensual pin-up girl to the sounds of Miles Davis, James Brown and Betty Boop.
The latest show by Wanted Posse Dance N’ Speak Easy transports us to the turbulent years of Prohibition in the United States, where light, airy house dance flirts with the wild steps of the Charleston, while breakdance and Lindy Hop whirl around each other. Meanwhile, freestyle hip-hop keeps pace with the frenzied jitterbug.
This is a hymn to freedom of expression, combining talent, power, humour, and sophisticated staging.
Wanted Posse is a global benchmark for French hip-hop. The group has won several world championship titles, including the Battle of the Year competition in 2001. Known for its stage creativity and technical skill, the posse has broken the conventions of hip-hop to highlight the choreography and personality of each dancer.
For this show, choreographer Njagui Hagbé and director Philippe Lafeuille (who staged the triumphant Tutu, winner of the Audience Award at the 2015 Avignon OFF Festival) have created an unexpected blend of dance, song and burlesque.
