Inspired by Plato’s famous dialogue, Giovanni Leonarduzzi’s new work investigates the continuous tension in the search for a total, unique, and fulfilled body.
Starting from the “hermaphrodites”, the supernatural figures in strength and form narrated in Aristophanes’ speech, Sympósion gets to the analysis of current social dynamics: the difficulty of finding, maintaining and cultivating a relationship in a society that pushes towards an increasing individualism, where it is less and less likely to accept to make “compromises” in a couple.
Hence the attempt to recreate a lost harmony by evoking moving figures born from the fusion of two bodies.

Compagnia Bellanda & Giovanni Leonarduzzi

Giovanni Leonarduzzi’s story as a dancer began in breakdance, where he has been active and recognised at the Italian and international level since 1997. He founded Bellanda company in 2012 with the aim of developing a deep research on movement and language moving from urban roots towards a choreographic writing of contemporary dance. In 2017, Giovanni Leonarduzzi and Claudia Latini decided to pursue this research together, exploring new points of contact between breakdance and contemporary technique.

interview

Have you been to Gorizia before?
If yes, something you haven’t forgotten:
I’ve never forgotten its melancholy, mixed with an incredible strength, of a city with such an important and peculiar past.

According to your personal experience:
Dance is… sacrifice
Dance can… make you fell alright
Dance will be… my ruin!!!

The most difficult thing that dance made you experience:
How sensitive and fragile the body is and how pretty much everything depends on its wellbeing.

The most beautiful thing that dance made you discover:
How sensitive and fragile the body is and how pretty much everything depends on its wellbeing!

A piece of advice to a budding company:
I wouldn’t know, Bellanda itself is a company that has just started...

A wish for your audience:
I hope you like SYMPÓSION (but maybe this is OUR wish!).

What inspired your show, in 3 words:
Hermaphrodite
Couples
Myth

Now tell me why I should come and see it:
What else is there other than watching the Visavì performances in Gorizia on 14 October?!
